It's smoothie season ! Whatcha got???

1 banana
1 scoop of whey protein
1 yogurt (breyers, dannon...)
Any other fruit you have lying around or 1/4 can frozen fruit drink mix
2 cups of any kind of juice or water
1 cup (maybe a little more) chopped ice
2-3 tablespoons fish oil
1 scoop of super green food ( buy at health food store, lots of different  brands sold, usually contains  spirulina, green algae...)
1 - 2 tablespoon of honey

 mix in blender, add more ice to make it more  slurpy
 
will fill a standard size blender and can be used as a meal replacement.

For me it has always been:

1 cup Orange juice (with pulp)
1 Banana
1 scoop whey protein or XM2 Muscle meal or Muscle Milk (vanila)
Ice to taste
Red Bull or 1/2 Monster energy drink

This is my morning Kick

Nice touch with the red bull Benji. Im not sure what tastes worse though, the Red Bull or Ells fish pee lol.
My recipe.
1 or 2 bananas
5 or 6 big strawberries
Some Ice cream, Vanilla or strawberry
Dole Pineapple, orange, banana juice
and Ice.
Nothing fancy but it'll work as a breakfast or quick snack on an average day.

I'm always in such a rush that I usually I skip the whole smoothie process thing and just throw a scoop of protein powder into a cup of skim milk, shake it up, and guzzle it down after downing a piece of fruit (apple or bannana) and a bowl of oatmeal.  Keeps me going for quite a while.  My big problem with a smoothie as a meal replacement is I don't feel full for long, so sometimes it can be as soon as an hour later when my stomach is looking for something to eat.


If I have time for a smoothie I usually go for the high protein route....
1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder (25-35g protein per scoop, depending on the brand I buy)
handful of mixed berries (fresh if I can get them, but frozen works well if they aren't in season)
1 cup skim milk
5-8 ice cubes (I skip the ice cubes if I'm using frozen fruit)

Fast, tasty, and easy.  Works as a nice between meal protein supplement.  Probably would be better as a post ride or post workout recovery shake (I drank these after every workout back when I was into the whole weight training thing).

If you are having trouble staying full, try adding a scoop of whole oats to it.  Peanut butter works well too.  Or if you don't want to go that route. Cinnamon works well.  Just the smell of cinnamon can reduce your to eat or feel hungry.

i love smoothies - the only downside is i HATE cleaning up the smoothie machine  :-\

i am going to try and get the fiance to start enjoying smoothies and maybe if i make em..she will clean up??

Do you use a smoothie machine or blender?  I use the blender and just rinse it out. The smoothie machines have that silly spout at the bottom. Blenders rinse out pretty easily. Now juice machines; whoa nellie!! Don't get me going on about those! Those be some serious clean-up.   ;D  Good luck having your 'Julie' clean up after you!

i guess i should look into these "smoothies" they sound good, and a good substitute for eating a 4th meal or something..

Experiment and make whatever you like. FactorE was compaining about the clean-up, but really, compared to making other food, the clean-up is easy. Once you know what you like, having  the ingredients in the house makes it fast and easy.

I have been drinking one about an hour and a half prior to riding. It does seem to help with my energy level. :)

I love making smoothies!  Last year I spent so much at smoothie king that I decided to buy one of their professional vita-mix machines from them for a few hundred bucks.

Now I make them at home.  Here is my favortie receipe


1 banana
8 frozen strawberries
1 scoop protein powder
1 cup low fat yogurt
1 cup high pulp oj
1 cup ice
1/2 cup water

blend it up and it tastes great.  Depending on my taste for the day I might add a little honey to sweeten it up.  but nothing else is needed.
