Changing a tire and BAM
« on: June 23, 2007, 12:11:57 AM »
I was changing a tire on my bike today when the tube decided to expire suddenly.  Scared the living $%@# out of me.  Hurt my ear also.  Huh?

Didn't you have a tube blow off the rim recently?  100 psi is for road tires.... ;D

Shawn,
Did you buy those from AJ's?  I had several explode on me in a very similar fashion.  All bought from AJ's.  I reported this to them and they changed them all out for me.  Even one that I got from Gruff (which he got from them) in one of the NC rides, exploded on me right on Bob's ear.  They all exploded about 3-5 in away from the valvue.

Same thing happened to both front and rear tires on my bike not long after I bought it.  I had just racked it and all the sudden BOOM!  Sounded like a shot gun had gone off next to my head.  Tubes took big chunks out of the tires too!  Took the bike back to the shop and they replaced tires and tubes under warranty.  Weird thing was I was running only about 40-45 psi.
It's not just fun, it's an addiction!

It was a specialized tube I got from AJ's, but I do not think the tube was defective  :P ;)

I flatted two tubes today.  Both Specialized light weight.  That was the last of my Specialized tubes (two others went flat) and I won't buy any more.

Flats are one thing, but blowed up like that for just pumping air into them?  Mine blew up when I reached about 35psi.  I normally ride at 40.  Is a scary sound.  Only has happened to me with those Specialized ones from AJ's.  So I am done with that brand too.  AJ's now carries Giant tubes.  They may have Specialized left but none for me either.   The prizethere also went up to $5.99 so I am buying them at bulk from Nashbar.  I just switched to a tubeless setup too so I hope to be buying tubess less and less.
