13 Hours of Santos
« on: June 24, 2007, 10:34:43 PM »
Has anyone done this race before?  If you have or know the old courses, please PM me.  Do you know if they use the red trails?  How long is each lap?

I'd also like to know what the old course was. I should have my truck fixed in time to make that race. Anyone want to team up?

I may be signing up for the 6 hr solo event.  But if is mainly on the red trails then I am out.  I don't need to be walking most of the time.  I belive they do John Brown which I think is a blue trail but can't remember.

Marcel,

You have to challenge yourself or you'll never get better.  ;)  The "red" trails at Santos are not much harder than the stuff you did up in the mountains. You will be fine. You just have to get out there and ride those trails. I took my brother and Sean up there yesterday, I forgot how much fun Santos is...

I think you could do fine up there you just have to "go for it" those trails aren't that hard.. there is some climbing and some rocky sections.. but John Brown is not that hard of a trail. Just has lots of short climbs..

=Bob  :D
the world should ride a rigid singlespeed!

I did the 6-hour 2 years ago. It was an 8-mile mix of yellows, blues and reds staying in the trailhead area (not going over to the Vortex area). Dave typically mixes up the reds so they're nicely spaced apart.

Thanks Harvey.  I think I am going to give it a go.  I will be camping out in Santos one weekend in August to go practice those Red trails and get over my fears.  I just want to build up doing as many 6 hrs events to that I can eventually do a 100 mile off road event or a 12 hrs  solo event.

P.S.  Nice to see you on here.  Thanks...

Thanks back! You guys were having too much fun in here for me to sit out.

6-hour races are a good progression to the longer stuff. I did the 12 Hours of Razorback in '04 and said "never again". After doing some 6-hour races, ORAMM a few times and a bunch of 100-milers last year, I've done 2 12-hour races this year and might be at Dauset in September.

There's so much to figure out in endurance races - pacing, nutrition, mind games - that baby steps are a good thing.

I am going to try to make this one! I have only done one solo 6 hour race so maybe I can try for the 13 solo. :-\

Any news on the old trail route? I'd like to spend some up-coming weekends getting used to the trails in Santos so I'll be familiar with them on race day.

Risky, I've talked to some folks from OMBA and they said that last years course stayed on the Santos side.  Course consisted of a mixed bag of all the trails.  Not sure of the exact route but most of the reds were used.  I should be riding up there at least one day if not both this weekend.  Hit me with a PM if you want to meet up.
It's not just fun, it's an addiction!

I might be able to do Saturday. I have a 4-6AM flight in Lakeland that morning, and a 7-9PM flight again that night. Let me check with Scooter, as we were planning to ride Boyette that day.
