I joined the ranks of riders who have gone swimming, wrestled with the gators, cooled off quick, acted out my favorite swamp monster scene from the movies .... by going off a cliff at Carter road and into the water. It was on the Pinky Finger. My handlebar clipped a tree on the left and I went over a cliff on the right and down into the water. I think it was close to a 10 foot shear wall and I was lucky not to have killed myself. Going over the side I was thinking ' this is some serious sh+@', and then I was thinking to tuck and roll. I flipped over and hit the water on my arm/shoulder. I landed bewteen many protruding tree branches that any of which could have impaled me. As soon as I splashed, I was thinking GATORS, GATORS. I jumped up and grabbed my bike to use the bike as a shield betweeen myself and any gators but then I didn't know from what direction the gators would strike from. I couldn't get out of the water because the dirt wall was vertical and I couldn't climb out. I scooted along the wall for about 20 feet and climbed out on an oak tree that had fallen into the water. I escaped completely un-hurt with very minor scratches on the front shin and a minor big ring tattoo on the rear calf. I was completely soaked with all kinds of debris in my helmet and my jersey. My co-riders who were in front of me did not know I went in and I didn't catch up with them until they had exited the next two fingers. That was the end of my riding for the day as I made my way back and showered at the bike rack.
