that $%#& snack machine at work
« on: July 02, 2007, 02:27:35 PM »
so if it takes burning 3500 excess calories to lose 1 pound of weight.  let me see how the snack machine at work effects me:

1 bag of peanut M&Ms and 1 package of cheese crackers a day 5 days a week.

MMs = 250 calories
cheese crackers 200 calories

450 calories a day x 5 days = 2250 a week or 9000 a month - that is 2.57 pounds a month that I am not losing because i have to walk by that evil machine.

i started at 267 pounds May 1st and am 242 now if i would have stayed away from the machine i would be 236.86 now

I AM DONE WITH THAT &%$#@ MACHINE

I keep thinking I should put a snack machine in my office, but I can't get it up the stairs. It would probably piss my wife off too!

It's not about calories - you need those - it's about getting quality calories and staying away from junk calories. Keep your own stash of snacks at work and stay away from the evil snack machine. Eat an energy bar instead of a bag of M&Ms. PowerBar Triple Threats are awesome. Eat a handful of nuts instead of the cheese crackers. The possibilities are endless.

that stuff has to be better - it is so hard finding good information - there are so many conflicting ideas when it comes to nutrition - most of the information you read isnt gauged towards people that are doing 400 miles or more a month so I am just trying to sift through it all.  i do know that the more weight i lose,  the more control i feel i have over my bike on the trails.  so i am on a mission.  i want to step up from B - -

There's a Chris Carmichael book called "Eat Right to Train Right". It's full of good info on how and what to eat, both on and off the bike. I think I got it at a LBS.

If you're putting in lots of hours, you need calories to get through those rides. A diet of whole, unprocessed foods will give you the energy you need and will still let you lose weight.

I am already trying to do what you said Harvey, hard to break old habits though.

It does help that the fridge is downstairs though. It might even be better if I had to put money in it to get it to open!  ;D

Once you get married the wife will put a stop to your wasteful spending and you won't have to worry about the vending machine anymore.  Once you say "I do", she doesn't just get the new ring...she also gets your testicles and your cash.  True story.

Try myoplex light bars.  they taste great and are only about 180 calories. They have a good amount of protein as well.  I used to never be able to pass by a vending machine...  now I keep those bars on me wherever I go.

I have this book and it is pretty good.  The author has a biking background.
