what size is 54cm bike?
« on: July 24, 2007, 04:07:27 PM »
I'm talking with a guy online who has a trek 4500 he is selling and he says the bike is 54cm.  he says he's 6'0 and it fits him well.  I am almost 6'2" and I was fitted for a large bike.  would this one be considered a large?

I'm 6'2" and ride a 59 cm bike.
That calculates to...59 centimeters multiplied by 0.3937008 = 23.2 inches.  That's a large or extra large?
My mountain bikes are large and extra large.  The hardtail is 19.5", the Sugar is 21".

I am 5'9.5" and I ride a 52cm. The overall fit can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. My mountain bike is a 18 inch frame.

If you are interested in a Trek, you may want to sit on one at your LBS before you commit to one online.

I don't know about trek but I also have a 54 in giant "compact" frame form. I am 5'10 and I know the 54 giant I have is a medium.  A 54 might be too small for a 6'2 rider.  but it all depends on how long is the reach and other things.  It is best to get fitted.

I was fitted to a Large or 20-21" at CBE when I was first looking.  I'm guessing I should stop by there again today before contacting this guy again.

Using Garry's formula, This should be a 21" though, right?

A 54cm bike is 21 inches I am 6' and I ride a 19.5.  You are 2" taller than me so I think this would work well for you.  A 21" would be considered a large.

Thanks for your help Gregg!

I did fit pretty good on that 19.5" bike...  Much better than what I am riding now!  I only wish my budget was a little larger.

I don't know if you are interested, but AJ's has a freedom to ride program, essentially it is a credit program through Citi Financial retail.  12 months same as cash.  You could get a better bike and equipment, and still have a year to pay it off!!  I worked great for me.
