This weekend - Rain soaked trails
« on: August 02, 2007, 09:45:17 AM »
so with all the heavy long lasting rain, i think that the majority of trails would be best if stayed off of this weekend.  Croom seems to be the one that can soak up the most water and still be ok to ride and ok to not ruin the trail.  what are peoples plans this weekend given the heavy rains that we have been pounded with?

i am going skinny tire sat and maybe croom sunday

I'm planning on riding Boyette on Sunday. It doesn't get muddy like Alafia does.

I'm planning on doing some trail work at alafia, and sneaking in a quicky. I'll stay off of Moonscape and Bridges, cause those are for sure goina be bogged down.

Croom is good right now. Just the west side of the pits area on north blue has a few water spots.

Trout Creek/Morris Bridge/ Flatwoods will be alright for the Sunday Club ride. It had gotten so dry there that after a couple of hours of not raining, the ground soaks it in.

Bidges and moonscape were mentioned as better left alone, How do you think N. creek and rockgarden will recover by Saturday provided this rain stops tonight? Would boyette be a better choice? I have only been to Alafia twice (the last two weekends) so I have no idea how the trails respond to the drenching they have taken. I have never been to boyette but did see where it was mentioned it responds better to our recent downpours.

just remember if the trails are really wet that you are doing more damage to them by riding on them..... so don't complain when there all sandy again...

im not tryin to preach but....  no trail is gonna be ready if this rain keeps up..  go out and do some maintenance instead this weekend, and maybe overhaul the bike, get er' ready for racin season!

I am going to work on the trails at Alafia on Saturday, maybe ride afterwards.  On Sunday, going to do the SWAMP club ride at Trout Creek. ;D ;D  Rain is supposed to slack of on Friday.

Croom was pretty dry today. We also did not get any rain today--which is unusual as of late. We have had rain pretty much everyday for the past month.  That is great though--we have a flowing river again!! It's been a long time coming.

Alafia was fine, moonscape was totally overgrown with grass, but very little mud on the other trails I was on.
