New Bike and Alafia...
« on: August 12, 2007, 06:20:47 PM »
I ventured out to Alafia for the first time today.  Gregg was kind enough to give us the tour and break the trails down by section.  We ended up doing rollercoaster, the bridges and a few others I'm not sure about.  I had an absolute blast, and getting more hooked on this sport by the day!

I purchased an Iron Horse Quantum II on sale at Sports Authority for $299.  Regular price was $599, so I think I did well.   Gregg was kind enough to stay on the phone with me and go over each part of the bike to make sure it was an OK purchase. After riding it for the first time today, I'm convinced this is finally a good starter bike for me.  The old Mongoose was not cutting it.  The difference is night and day.

So, Thank you Gregg for all your help since I started!

My pleasure.

You did really well today, someone as new to the sport as you are doing the harder options on Rollercoaster is great to see.

I think that the bike is obviously a huge step up, and a surprisingly good value. It will deinitely be a great starter!

Here's a pic of my new ride for those interested;-)

I'm sure within a year I will have this thing upgraded and be in it for a fortune like most of you other guys!

Looks like a lot of bike for $299. Disc brakes and was that your butt saying YES! a WTB saddle! That should hold you for a while.

Oh man, the saddle felt like a pillow compared to the original one I had on the Mongoose!
I need to get the derailers adjusted this week.  I don't think Sports Authority guys did a real good job setting those up, so I will bring the bike to CBE tomorrow or Wednesday and have them fix it up for me and check the setup on everything else to be sure it's done right.

I would love to make it back to Alafia this week, but I have my kids so no can do.  I'll be well rested for 2 or 3 rides next week though!  Gregg was an amazing help.  He wouldn't take me on Rabbit ears for some reason though..  lol (j/k Gregg...  I hope I never have to feel your pain!)

Hey Sharky- my first bike was a '03 Iron Horse Warrior Comp. I got it for $250 off Sarasota Craigslist and had a blast riding it for my first few months of mountain biking. Iron Horse really is a great value, and it never let me down. I even managed to sell it for $250 after I bought the Rush, with a few scratches but not much worse for the wear.

Thats good news man!  I hope this will last me longer than a few months though, as my budget won't permit a larger expenditure in the near future.

A suspension seatpost might be a good investment ;)
