Rode boyette yesterday for the first time - I absolutely loved it, especially the loch ness trails!!!

Anyways, my grips were soo slippery *insert lame slicker than snot joke*...

I need your advice - what're the best grips that I can get nowadays?  one with acceptable padding, and superior grip.

There's a few to choose from.  Race Face Good & Evil are a comfortable set.  Ouray is good.  Increasingly popular are the Ergon grips.  There is a couple different styles of that one and they clamp on I believe.

TTam,
Do you use gloves?  I sweat so much that riding without them is too dangerous for me no matter which grips I use.  Garry's list of suggestions are really good.  I have gone back and forth within Ergon and Oudry's.  Everyone has a different preferance just find a pair that works for you.

Make sure to get clamp on's to avoid any twisting on the grip's part.

Odi Rogue lockons.

EXCELLENT grips, especially if you have at least average size hands.

My Ergon Pro Grips are arriving tomorrow.. I'll let you know they work out.. I had some problems with my hand falling asleep.. not so much the grip.. the gloves take care of that.

I agree with Sandpine, it doesn't matter what grip if you are not wearing gloves. I am partial to my Oury lock on grips. Nice and thick with lots of padding. ;)

I am considering WTB Weirwolf grips. I recently met someone who uses them and swears by them. Just as importantly, they match my favorite tires :D

I have Oury lock-ons on my hardtail, and run Ergons w/barends on my SS and Rush. The Ergons are great for me, and now they make a smaller version for smaller hands. The Oury grips are really good, but not nearly as comfortable on longer rides. As stated above, a good set of gloves will make everything better.

thanks all for the advice.

I've never heard of "clamp on" grips.  Can someone elaborate what those are, and if I have to buy them separately than the grips (if I decide to get a clamp on grip).

they are grips that use a clamp on each end to secure them instead of using stiction to do it. Usually they are a little fatter around than the ones the slip on.

If that does not work for you try cork tape that is used on road bikes my hands sweat and my gloves do not do squat, so I went to handlebar tape and it seems to be working fine.  You have to wrap it more than once so you actually have some padding and something to hold on to.
