Stans No Tube talk
« on: September 06, 2007, 04:16:35 PM »
FactorE, what were the details of your Stans  blowout? Type of wheel, tire, psi in tire, how long had you been riding the Stans before it  blew, how many miles? Did you set it up yourself?   ???

wheels = mavic cross trail tubeless
tires = maxxis ignitor
pressure 35 psi

it blew the bead off the rim 2 times on 2 different g-outs both were on 2 different occasions in north abyss

i loved how the stans rolled through flatwoods and through everything else at boyette - and there was no warning when it happened.  for riders over 200 pounds it is not uncommon for this type of setup to blow the bead - however with the stans rims it seems might be a better fit - they are made for that.

You felt pretty confident that they were set up properly?

they worked fine until i did those g-outs - a LOT of lightweight riders have great luck stans - plus those tires are not on the (these are good to run tubeless) list on stans site

I have had pretty good luck going tubeless.  On my 26" bike I used the DT Swiss kit on a set of DT 5.1d's and it worked fine.  No burping and they held air no problems.
I just went tubeless on my 29er with a set of stan's arch rims.  I did this 2 days before the sm100.   A poor tape job by me meant I had to run a tube in my front, but the rear worked fine.  Let me tell you that the sm100 was punishing on tires and mine held air all day.  Like Factore said I think the rim/tire combo is going to have a lot to do with your success ratio.  What tires and rims do you plan on using?

My combo is pretty good. We called  and talked to Stan. Chiselchest is going to be running the same set up as Kabush (spelling?) and I'm running some Maxxiss and Amer. Classic.

I've had something similar happen as Factore. Stans don't like us big guys, I know a lot of smaller guys that have had great success with it though.

LOL   - My party time is tomorrow. I watched  the demos on line yesterday and I was telling Chisel that I thought, wasn't sure, but I thought I read or saw Stan say that with the tire combo that Chisel is using, he was going to have to install a second rim strip in order to get the tire to seal. I may have been right.  He's struggling with it now.  Determined to get it right tonight.  ;D
