Mavic Crosstrail durability?
« on: September 20, 2007, 10:30:06 PM »
Hails, I recently ordered a Mavic 819/XT wheel set. Everything I have heard about the 819 is positive, on the downside I did some research on the XT m756 hubs and they are a tad on the heavy side adding about 100+ grams per wheel compared to the Mavic crosstrail setup. When I placed my order for the 819's there was one set left but after talking to the online  :-[ bike store I find they are on back order now for 2 weeks. Rather then view this as a negative it has given me time to do a little research. I can purchase the in stock crosstrails for another $125. Is it worth the upgrade? $125. for half a pound ain't bad value.

Everything I have read about them say's the same thing. They just seem a little more delicate because of the lack of spokes but I have not seen any negative report in that respect. The only bad I have seen is the rear hub and I think that was addressed by Mavic a year or two ago.

O.K. just got off the phone with beyond bikes. Good bye 819's Hello CrossTrails. After paying a visit to University and actually fondling a set of the crosstrails I was to smitten not to wander :)
