Gran Canyon
« on: October 17, 2007, 04:37:10 PM »
I haven't been to Gran Canyon in many years and I was wondering if it is still open.  The number that is posted a number of places on the internet is disconnected.  If they are open and someone had a phone number, that would be great.

He's talking about the Gran Canyon MTB park from days gone by.

The last time I rode there was for a race in 2001. Dave Berger had to clear all the trails he used for the race. At that time the owner had embraced frisbee golfers, quit maintaining the MTB trails and the MTB riders quit going there. That's still the case as far as I know.

Man, I loved that place. Talk about a place to build some skillz...

I think I've seen a sign somewhere along I-75 (may have been somewhere else) for a "Grand Canyon".  But where was this place?

Gregg,
Going from the North rim down to the colorado river and up to the south rim... then back... would probably have to follow donkey trails but I am sure there is plenty of MTB'ing that still open out there.  6,000 ft of climbing streight up in one shot... major skillz for sure!    ;D ;D

Gran Canyon was very close to Croom trailhead #3, off of Mondon Hill Road.

Sounds a little precarious to me? I bet the view is awsome!

The view is awesome, but the last person to ride their bike though the grand canyon spent several days in jail because it's illegal to ride a bike or use a motorized vehicle below the rim. Which isn't to say that it wouldn't be fun, but I really really wouldn't wanna ride those last 3 miles up the bright angel, or skeleton pass on south kaibab. Mucho pain.
