Trail system building questions
« on: October 24, 2007, 04:18:35 PM »
Just some questions I have been curious about.
1. What would be the smallest piece of land one could use and still have a trail "system" people would be willing to use?

2.  How far would people be willing to drive for before they consider the trails to far away.  Let's assume               these trails would be among the better in the area.

3.  How much would riders be willing to pay for exclusive use to such trails?

4.  If you could take any 6 trails from local parks now and put them all in one place what would they be?

Rollercoaster, Northcreek, Vortex loop, golf cart, north and south Abyss, Bridges.

If I had to choose only six.

I drive 50 or so to get ot alafia, more to santos.

5 to 10 per ride, if the ride was really that good.

If I was paying to ride a trail that was on private property (i.e. like a Razorback and not a park like Alafia), I'd want a minimum of 5 miles of well-maintained singletrack, though 10+ miles would be ideal.  I would travel up to 70 or so miles each way (I live in Orlando so I'm used to driving to ride quality trails).  I'd pay $5 - $10 to ride it and would like an option for an annual membership.

As far as trails go, I'd love to see stuff that mimmicks the following trails:

North Creek (Alafia)
Rollercoaster (Alafia)
The MOE (Carter)
Vortex (Santos)
John Brown (Santos)
Anything from Razorback

I'd also love a dirt jump area with multiple lines, a pump track, and a skills area.

We drive 150 miles to have decent places to ride. So 2 hours of driving is necessary to get to places that don't consider mountain bikes to be criminal (aka East Coast of Florida). Never picky about trails. But love the ones that were already listed.

I'm not sure how to answer the first question.

A trail is "too far away" when it takes more than, er, 2 hours to get there.  I live near downtown TPA, so all the swamp trails, santos and san felasco, etc. are all within two hours.

I wouldn't feel too good about paying more than $5 to ride at a private location.

My ideal trail system would have a lot of smooth flowing trail like in spider kingdom, some intermediate ridge trails like golf cart, anything like north creek, also some flowing difficult trails like abyss and rollercoaster, and some technical rocky trails like the vortex rim trail.  I could care less about jumps or drops.
