Cell phone reception at Balm Boyette
« on: December 08, 2007, 01:00:19 PM »
I currently have T Mobil as my cell phone carrier, but get poor or no reception at the trails at Balm Boyette.

I ride there once per week or so durring the week and sure would like the comfort a working phone would bring.

Who gets good coverage in that area and what provider do you use?

Thanks,

Steve

I have Tmobile as well.........and you're right, reception is very hit and miss (mostly miss).

I have the same troubles at Alafia but one good thing is..........both places receive reception for 10-15 minutes per hour.........meaning every 3-5 minutes you'll look down to find you do have reception.....

Of course, not very appealing in the case of a true emergency.

Thanks for the feedback scubastud,

I on the otherhand, seldom see any signal strength, so have stopped even carrying it there.  When my wife comes with me we carry hand radios.  They work "mostly" still not 100% if you crash really badly you are up the creek!

Now we need to find out who does get good reception.

Except for the two track near the farmers field I get good reception with Verizon.

My Nextel works well through out.

Thanks to all who replied.

I will be looking for a new service, and at least now I know what does and does not work.

Looks like Nextel, AT&T and Cingular are on the top of the list.

Thanks again,

Steve

Stay away from Sprint too. I had the same problems with them. AT&T has been great - service everywhere.

The only reason that the T-Mobil was working out well for us other than Boyette, is that we were on the 1000 min. for $100, pay as you go plan that lasted for 1 year.  With the free phones I got at Costco a few years ago, it turns out we wound up paying less that $10 per month for each phone.  Hard to beat the price.

Does anyone know of any similar plan with the carriers that we are discussing for Boyette?

Nextel, AT&T, Cingular and now Verizon.

The great deal works very well, just up to the point when you can't get a singal.

Thanks again for all of the feedback.

I don't know how many phones you have but we have five and it's add a line for $10.00 with the family pln and they have roll over minutes which was great for us. Supposedly they zero out at the end of the year but ours kept on rolling over into the new year the past two years. The unlimited text plan is $27.00 I think. Down side of five phones (3 of 4 kids have one, soon to be the fourth), is that our bill looks like a paperback novel in the mail!

Hi Ken,

We only have 2 phones, so that does impact the normal family deals.

This Sunday paper "Best Buy" add looks like AT&T and Verizon have pay as you go deals.

I already use Verizon for land line and DLS services, so I'll be looking at their plan the closest.

Thanks for your help.

Steve
