Panaracer Fire XC Pro 2.1 review
« on: February 06, 2008, 02:47:33 PM »
I rode my new tires today at Wilderness parks. My friend Reed (owner of Spokes cycle in Oldsmar) and I started at Trout Creek and rode Bayshore around the lakes to Coconut Grove. Then we hit Gatorbait, Indian, Washboard, Heartbreak Ridge, and finished the loop. I ran the back tire at 36psi and the front at 38psi and on the root covered trails the tires felt great. When we got over to Flatwoods and started on Eubanks Parkway I picked up the pace considerably and leaned the bike in the turns trying to make it wash out. No such luck- all the way through Flatwoods we rode faster and faster and I couldn't make the tires wash out. The grip of these tires while leaning through the turns and switchbacks is incredible. There doesn't seem to be any difference in the rolling resistance compared to my IRC Mythos XC's. I just wish the tires were all black, the red bead is visible and would look better if it was black. That is not enough to outweigh the fantastic performance of these tires for me and I encourage anyone who runs 2.1's to try these bad boys out.

Ive been using the Panaracer Fire XC Pro since 1997 riding in Miami and riding up here and never had any problems.
PIRANHA'S review is basicly sums up what all Panaracer Fire XC Pro users already know.

I used to run Fire XC's years ago, but I've found the newer offerings from Kenda, especially Nevegals, Blue Grooves, and Small Block 8's in the Stick-E compound to be superior albeit at a higher price tag.

I'm debating putting some of these on my Furio. I guess I need to stick the clipless pedals on it and hammer away at the Larsen TTs again to see if they go all wishy-washy like they did on the Rush...

Its really the newer, softer rubber compounds that I really like - a trade off of durability versus grip.
