Any trouble with Thomson X4 Stems?
« on: February 16, 2008, 01:23:31 PM »
Hola gang,

I was cleaning my bike this morning (in preparation for tomorrow's ride at Boyette), and discovered what appear to be two cracks on my new Thomson X4 stem. The cracks are on both the upper and lower clamp portion of the stem; the part that actually clamps around the fork steerer tube. At first I thought they were mere scratches, but upon closer inspection...

I suspect that Thomson will say it is due to over tightening, but I always use a torque wrench; unless I'm on the trail which rarely happens

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else out there has experienced something like this ????

I've never had any problem with any Thomson product but I would suspect that they would help you out if you contact them.

I know that Benjibad had a problem with his Thompson Stem. He cracked it too. I am 99 percent sure that they just replaced it.

Thomson contacted me via email on Monday. The verdict; (without inspecting the broken stem) the failure is do to over-tension (tightening). However, they will happily replace the stem.

I shipped the broken stem off to Macon, GA this morning.

Gracias Thomson! ;D
