Does anyone here use any "chamois butter" on long rides?  I'm thinking about using some on the undercarriage for Squiggy, but I need to find some that doesn't have any fragrance (my skin reacts to soaps/lotions with fragrances...last thing I need is a rash in that area while I'm riding).  Any suggestions on what I should use?  I've heard some people use regular moisturizers (i.e. Noxema, Eucerin, etc).  Does this stuff work as good as the chamois creams?

I personally use ASMASTER cream, there are many similar products that are very good. They really do keep you from chaffing. I have tried to use vasoline in the past, but it makes one hell of a mess. The creams clean up very well. I know that Harvey had suggested using Noxema, I think Ken told me he tried it.

I personally use the cream regardless if I am going to ride for only an hour or 4 hours.

Whatever you do, don't wait 'til race day to try it.  Vaseline is the safest bet, especially with a sensitive undercarriage. Grin

Vaseline will seal in bacteria.  Bag Balm works good from Walgreens.

Yes I tried the Noxema but it was the Publix generic brand. I have to admit I was skeptical at first and thought maybe Harvey was pulling one over on me, but it really works well!  Shocked  I think my short rides are different than Harveys butt they've worked well on 50 - 60 mile rides for me. It does give you a little tingley feeling in the tush at first but goes away quickly. I've had no saddle sores so far this year  and have 1088 miles in since Jan. 1st.

Ass Butter, AssMaster, Noxema, and Balm... all work.  Definetely go with one for longer rides.  But the main thing is to get your sweaty riding shorts off as soon as you are done riding.   Nothing good ever comes from wearing them longer then you need to.  Take them off before you leave the parking area after a ride.  Even if you have to be commando under your pants on the ride home.  Riding home with them under your AC'ed car ... just not good.  All that bacteria just grows right on you.  They also sell anti-bacteria spray that you can put on the chamois of the your shorts.  use that when you store your shorts away to kill anything left in there.   Sattle sores suck!

All that bacteria can lead to staff infections. The medical field is having an increase in staff infections, especially in youth and high school sports programs. The kids are leaving their practice clothes in their lockers and wearing them over and over without washing them, in their sports bags and forgeting them etc. You probably saw in the news where the jail inmate just died from a staff infection. Lesson being, "wash ur shorts!"

Actually, Flexall 454 works the best--just lather it all around down there and hit the trail.

We used to do the Ben Gay treatment to guys jocks in football while they gone before practice. Made for some laughs but usually ended up in us running laps!
