there have been multiple "glass" flats @ south abyss as of late - I had one happen in the last group ride - when I got home found shards of glass in tire and gregg had the same type of thing happen at the same place...my lbs said he has heard of several other instances this week of the exact same thing...did somebody litter the abyss with broken glass?

Unfortunately, in today's day and age, you have to believe it is done on purpose. A flat is bad enough, but what about a crash on it, or because of it. Maybe it's accidental, but the cynic in me thinks otherwise. FACTORe, thanks for doing what you could in picking it up. You probably saved a few people.

Unfortunately in this case, where ever the glass was, I don't recall seeing anything. I rode into the North Abyss I remember feeling like the back tire had compressed a bit much when I crossed a root, but didn't really think about it. I came out of there and headed right into the South. After I had passed the bench, I was feeling like it was a little soft, and as I climbed out just before "big drop" I knew I had to check it.
So it could have been anywhere on the trail. What really sucked is that I was low on Stan's Fluid, so the puncture wasn't sealing. 6 CO2 cartridges later and a half mile walk, I was back at the car.

Perhaps the glass was from someone that accidently locked their keys in the car and had to break the window. Just kidding. I cleaned up the glass from my "accident".

No different then anywhere else. Bring a spare tube, patch kit and pump on all rides.

Seven of us rode Boyette yesterday and we didn't notice any glass and had no flats. But at times, I come home after a Boyette ride, and the next day, booom, a flat! I better go check them.

this sounds like either A. Smart alec kids. or B. Extreme conservationists, using the logic that broken glass is better for mother nature than the wear and tear of mountain biking.
some people need to get a clue and a life.

Remember this was a mine. Workers could have broke the glass there when it was an active mine, and we are uncovering it while we ride. Or it could be recent breakage.

It's funny I post this and today my buddy ( slowy ) gets a flat right at the end of pandemonium !!! we could not possibly be any farther away from our cars. But thanks to Jeff and the others he was with ( sorry I did not get your names ) they were more then happy to lend us a tube, tools and pump, you guys saved us from a really crappy day! next time we will be more properly prepared.
