Does anyone else here want to take the Mountain Bike Patrol Class? Lou doesn't have enough people to make up a class yet. I'd like to take it but we need more people. Let me know.

The class is scheduled for May 24th so get those RSVP's to Lou soon so she can plan for it.  A lot of behind the scenes stuff goes into planning for everything we do, so help out by letting her know early.

Garry, Lou told me that the 24th class is just a cpr class not a patrol class. That's why I was trying to find people to participate so we could organize a class. She's getting me the particulars on day and length.

Woops, my mistake.  But to be National Mountain Bike Patrol one needs the First Aid/CPR and the Patrol class.  I think Julianne does the patrol class.

That was my understanding also. If there was a patrol class i beleive they hold aCPR class on the same day and i'd wait to take the CPR class then as opposed to taking it on the 24th which is mothers day. I need to update my card anyway as I like to keep it current for my captains license although it's not required to keep current I like to anyway.

This is what was done last year. Karl Smart did the portion that you need to get certified by IMBA. You do not need to be certified by IMBA to be a Swamp guide, but you do need the CPR and first aid class.

Ken, The 24th is memorial day weekend (i think).  Mother's day is this weekend.  Wouldn't want you to miss Mother's day as you wife may not be very happy about it.

BTW, I am in the CPR class.  Last year we started a great tradition with the Flying Monkey Brothers.  (Bob and Matt).  Bring your road ride for a before class and a after class roadie lay the hammer down day!  Nothing better then seating in 2-3 hrs class all smelly...   We meet at 7am for the morning session and after class is part 2.  ;D

What are the specifics of the class up to this point?  Time it starts, length, will it include CPR/First Aid AND bike patrol?  What is the cost, and location?  Thanks.

I'm waiting for specifics from Lou and Julianne, but I think the CPR/ First Aid/ Defib class runs around 3 hours maybe a little shorter and it's free except for $3.00 for the card. There's one the 24th next weekend at Widerness but it's close to being full if not already. They also do the bike patrol and first aid together I beleive adding another 1-2 hours for the patrol class. They've had those at Alafia before and again I beleive it's free. If you want to be an IMBA / NMBP you need to show proof of the class, first aid card and pass an online test (pretty simple) and pay for the membership, starting at $50.00 with different packages for more money and all include a 1 year membership to IMBA. Check out the IMBA website and there's alot more info there. Here's the link....... http://www.imba.com/nmbp/membership.html

Anyone wanting toi take itlet me know so I can get an accurate headcount. So far I have

Ken Odum
Jonathon
Jason D

and several from the Swampclub e-group.

Ken, not sure if you  mentioned it already so sorry if you did... If you planning on becoming NMBP you have to do two things.  Actually three or more but the two basic ones is to pass the online test they have on the link Ken put up.  Very easy and you can take multiple times.  Take a local class (IMBA will check this), then send for your membership.  Of course, you should go out and practice on the trails too.

From what I understand, Julianne's class takes care of that. There were three different ways to fulfill thta requirment, and that was one way.

You have to be certified in CPR in order to take the NMBP test through the IMBA. That CPR certification is good for 3 years. That is what Lou's class is about on the 24th.

3-4 spots are left in the CPR class and Lou said usually several people don't show, so if you live close by and want to attend the CPR class, you could stop by and see if there's room and if not your not driving real far out of the way.
