supliments - what are you taking you beefcakes?
« on: May 08, 2008, 10:07:14 AM »
I quit drinking gatoraide or any of those high in sugar sports drinks and drink straight water and take electrolyte pills

in addition to electrolytes i take the following:

Endurox® EXCEL® (maximum strength formula) -- 1,200 mg standardized extract of ciwujia; Vitamin E (60 IU)/ 2 caplets.

Endurox EXCEL is guaranteed to help you exceed your personal best. Endurox EXCEL builds endurance, raises the lactate threshold, speeds workout recovery, and increases cardiac efficiency by lowering the heart rate by maintaining the same level of workout intensity. Endurox EXCEL contains maximum strength Endurox plus vitamin E. Endurox EXCEL slows the lactic acid buildup that causes muscle fatigue. Vitamin E has been shown to improve workout recovery by preventing the buildup of free radicals associated with muscle damage and soreness.

Sci Fit Nutrition
Kre Alkalyn

info here - http://www.kre-alkalyn.net/

--------------------------------------
myogenix aftershock

for strength and recovery (This one really helps with getting rid of the lactic acid and recover much faster than anything else I have tried after really hard rides)

I don't hardly ever use the gels or other stuff like that any more...a good balanced diet with these are working.

what is working for you all?

standardized extract of ciwujia
Seriously, you made this up right?  Extract of what?

Ciwujia Extract Herbal Supplements To Lose Weight

There are herbal and natural medicine that can help you to increase athletic performance and cut down body fat at the same time.  Endurox Excel natural training supplement is made with Ciwujia extract herbal supplements that increases your cardiac efficiency and sports performance by raising lactate threshold and building up endurance.  The end result is that these herbal supplements help you to use less lung and air to run a longer distance.  This sports supplement is mainly used by swimmers and track athletes, but consumers who wish to lose weight have been turning to Endurox for its cardiac and fat burning capabilities.  During your exercise, the Ciwujia extract herbal supplements shift your energy source from carbohydrate to fat, therefore burning more fat while you burn calories by cardio.  If you are looking for a sports enhancement performance supplement and herbal supplements that help you lose weight, Endurox Excel is a great choice that comes with a backed up guarantee. So if you think it works, you can continue usage, if not you can simply return for a money back.

I normally take BSN NO-Xplode on 3 month on/1 month off cycles when I'm doing bulking phases, other than that I take a standard whey protein post workout.

NO-X wont do much for your mountain bike riding but I find it helps a lot with how much I'm able to lift.

Does anyone know how best to prevent leg cramping or what causes it for that matter? I have been riding for about two years (2-3 times a week), and yesterday was the first time ever that I started to cramp up (upper leg area). I took an electrolyte pill, started drinking (water) more than usual from my camelback, but to no avail the cramping kept getting worse, it even moved from one leg to the other after I got off my bike and stretched and massaged my thigh. Finally it was so painful that I could not ride anymore and had to walk my bike out of the park and even this was a challenge. I feel my diet is better these days than when I was younger, I eat more fruits and vegetable and less red meat, I do use a lot less table salt now-a-days, maybe that has contribuited to this event.

Any way, let me know if this is something that has happened to you and how did you deal with it.

We are now in the beginnings of the summer weather, so this can be expected if you don't take precautions.  Staying hydrated is big.  Pre-hydrating in the days before a long hot ride is key too, as is salt, elctrolytes and such getting into you.  Coffee and sodas can actually dehydrate you, especially in the summer months, so limit your intake on those.  A suppliment that you can get at most bike shops called "Sport Legs" works well too - but with all supliments read the labels and be aware of your own body and what it can and cannot take.  Taking gels on your rides helps a lot as well.  They take about 15 minutes to kick in.  Hope this helps.

You asking for free nutrition coaching?  No freebies here.  What works for one does not work for another when it comes to nutrition. The twinkies and the beer sound good to me.
