To all off road cyclist, Some of you may have heard of Mountiantown trail in Ellijay, Ga and some not. This is one of the oldest MTB trails in the S.E. U.S. and was built and is maintained by the Ellijay Mtn Bike Assoc. and SORBA and has been having access problems. The Hikers and Forrest Watch (Ga version of the Sierra club) have been trying to make this trail closed to bikes and thought they had succeeded by getting the Pinhoti 1.1mi connector from Bear Creek to Mtntown hiker only and the original terminus has also been closed due to a gated development. The attached is a proposal letter from the National Forrest Service Larry Thomas proposing to change the Pinhoti section to multiuse in accordance with the rest of the 100mi Pinhoti trail system and that would provide a way off Mtntown trail and back to the Bear Creek/ Gates Chapel Rd parking area. Please read the attached letter from Larry and drop him a simple e-mail supporting proposals 1-4. Please pass this on to all in the Mtn Biking community.
Thanks, Todd Lyons
