video editing??
« on: June 19, 2008, 07:20:29 AM »
What is a good video editing software? I got a free helmet cam from my buddy that owns the LBS and am gonna make some videos on a DVD that he can play at the shop. Looking for some good software that won't ruin the picture quality like some of them that I have seen do. Any suggestions?

I got my wife Sony's Vegas Studio for video editing.  It is somewhat expensive at around $100, but allows you to do a ton of cool stuff and is practically a professional quality product.

This is the software I got her:  http://www.amazon.com/Vegas-Movie-Studio-DVD-6/dp/B000ES817M/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1213875667&sr=1-3

We had some other software that she used to put together some DVD's but quickly got frustrated with it as it didn't let her do more advanced things that she wanted to do.  The Sony software we got is more complicated to do things in, but she's pretty much only limited by her imagination with it.

I use Roxio Easy Media Creator Videowave. Very easy to use, has transitions, you can insert scrolling text and other effects. Basically, it's not super advanced, but for simple Youtube vids and making DVD's or VCD's it works perfect.

The Lamborghini of video editing is Avid..but I doubt you want to spend $2500 for the basic kit..or $10,000 for a full blown set up..but it edits in real time and you'd have the exact same software every movie studio uses...lol

Or you could pick up Adobe After effects..which will give you all the tools, Avid has, almost edits in real time..and you'd be able to produce movie/TV quality edits. Its about $1,100...

or you could just follow the others less-insane advice and pick up a consumer/ budget friendly program. :D
