Boyette trails closed until further notice
« on: June 19, 2008, 07:47:02 PM »
Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation has closed the Balm-Boyette trails until further notice because a few trees are down on some of the trails and think it is too dangerous to allow people in there.

If any (lots?) of you would would like to express your displeasure, (respectfully of course), with them closing the trails and not being able to maintain the trails like SWAMP used to for the last 14 years - their phone number is (813) 672-7876.

WTF.......Can we take care of the trees this weekend?   I don't get it.....they are worried about trees?  I hope they never find big drop!  Anyway, I'll call from work and let them know we are very eager to do their job, and clean up the trees.....I better check with Gary before I call, as he might not want me to.

ok, let me make sure I have this straight before I call. They have restricted SWAMP from getting in there except for a few days a month. They won't go in and clear a couple of trees that they won't let SWAMP go in and clear. And then, with all their accumulated knowledge of mountain biking have decided the trails are now too dangerous to ride because of a couple of down trees? Why didn't they clear the trees while they were back there looking around!

I'm grateful I don't need medical attention and the govt. is in charge.

Lets see move trees or take a nap under a tree? What does the state worker due!  Its either George Bush's fault, or the state is trying to figure out a fuel surcharge.  Seriously, with budget cuts they probably do not have the man power to take care of it, and the state does not need a lawsuit right now.

Actually it's not state workers that would be out there. Its would be the county. I can tell you 1st hand that local municipalities are absoulutly strapped. In my county we have one land manager doing all the work on a 24,000 acre property. That being said I think its a shame that SWAMP is not allowed to do the work. I guess it comes down to concerns about liability. SUCKS.

That's where volunteer groups come in.  There is no charge to the County or land managers and the recreation interest is served.  I hear their concern about liability, but not so much as a band-aid in 15 years?  I'm trying to read between the lines and find the supposed track record of risk there.

Press 0 to speak to an operator.  I spoke to Jennifer.  She was nice but we are better off calling Monday when DA MEN is there.  If Jennifer talks to you ask her to transfer you to Ross' voice mail or to take a message for him.
