Check out this mountain bike video...
« on: July 15, 2008, 12:40:01 PM »
A video showing a very cool descent in the French Alps which is absolutley spoiled by the douchebaggedness (is that even a word?) of the guys shooting the video...worse trail manners ever.

Enjoy -

Given what I know about the area, I'd imagine that there is nothing stopping you from going up; however, it wouldn't be advisable.

Bomb it and get the F_ ck out of my way you damn Yankees!

Man that was a rush watching that video, being there and actually getting to ride that trail would be over the top - somebody tell me where I can purchase the ticket! :o

Damn, that was a pretty sick decent! Looks like running people off the trail and locking your rear brake are the cool things to do now.

In that case, consider me Miles Davis!

The lead guy did execute a pretty nice block pass about 1 minute into the video...too bad they weren't racing bmx/mountain-x.

The trail does look like fun...relatively smooth and wide with some nice opportunities for some air.  One day, perhaps after I win the lotto, I'd love to make it out to the Portes du Soleil region for some kick-@ss mountain biking in the Alps - http://www.portesdusoleil.com/index_ete.asp?lng=en

Great video. My guess is, that guy has ridden that trail before. Did you notice the cliffs/ drop-offs at the switchbacks? That speed going into those turns takes mad skills or a death wish. The acceleration  on some of the straight-aways was incredible. Was the camera man a better rider? He had to keep his head/camera focused on the guy in front and still keep up.   8)

Sick. WOuld be a fun ride but would take my time getting to the bottom lol. The real fun would be the climb back up to the top. Who needs a ski lift!?

Go to Downieville you can do that for 17 miles and its a lot more technical and closer. Hey Chisel, be careful with that splinter.

The very cool thing about the Portes du Soleil region is that it is a huge valley with 26 lifts taking you to several hundred miles of trail - with everything from mild XC to World Cup level DH courses..  That video is just of one trail in one area.  It is supposed to be like the Whistler of Europe during the summer.

That said, I'd still like to hit Downieville one day.
