lace up the gloves... what ya got
« on: July 30, 2008, 02:47:29 PM »
What do you guys like for gloves?  With or without fingers, padding exc.?

I currently use fox digits.  Full finger, silicone tips on brake fingers, no padding.  I like the protection and grip but on really hot days my hands start to slide around on the palms.  Previously i had fox unibombers that were similar.   I like how the digits have more of a mesh material rather than the terricloth over the thumb.  I also ride ergon grips but would like to focus on gloves rather than debate grips.

I like full finger gloves and get whatever is on sale.  I've used padded and unpadded versions of Fox, Dakine, 661, and Cannondale gloves and they have all been great.  I like to have 3-5 pairs at any one time just so I'm not wearing the same stinky pair each time.  I think my ideal glove would be:  full fingered, carbon knuckles (they look cool), lightly padded, no velcro around the wrist, and in some kind of guady color because its cool to stand out  ;D

I bet this doesn't get as heated as other bike gear discussions

I have using the Specialized Ridge full finger available at UBC. They have a mesh spandex back that breathes pretty well a small gel pad on the palm and a micro wipe surface on the thumb for SNOT :P . They have proven to be durable and have been thru the washer a dozen twice with no adverse affect. A nice glove for our warm weather.

Anthem reminded me...my ideal glove would also have some area around where thumb part joins the hand part specifically for wiping snot.  You need to have something to wipe the snot off with!

I've been using Fox Mojave gloves for well over a year.  Half finger with full terry cloth thumb that works great for wiping snot.  And with the half fingers, if one wipe won't get all of the snot, I can always stick my finger up my nose and get it all out.  They go in the wash after every ride, so I don't kill myself with the stench every time I have to wipe.

Full fingered, padded, like to have a pad for wiping sweat but will use any full fingered glove  on sale.  The full finger protects  the hand better in case of a high speed spill and spectacular wipe-out. One less body part to get scraped or  cut.

I like them full-fingered as well. I currently have a couple of the c-dale gloves that I really like, figures they would quit making that one. They have held up real well, they get run through the washer after every ride.

Full fingered all the way, ....minimal padding....Snot cloth a plus!  I prefer the cheaper ones too, it seems the more I pay for gloves, the more likely I am to leave them on the back of the car when I drive away. :o

Currently, I have a plain black pair of Nike's and a pair of Fox Dirtpaws(they used to be black, but the sanitizing feature on the new megabuck washer that we bought, turned them into more of a navy color :-\). I paid about 20 for each. They are both in the wash right now.......'CAUSE THEY SMELL BAD... ;D

Where are you guys finding deals on full fingered gloves?  I need a new set and these half-fingers glove suck in the summer (extra sweat makes for slippery fingers).

If we tell you, we will have to kill you................. :(

Seriously, though.... since we'd hate to do that.

Try your local bike shop. I bought both of mine at local shops.

Mechanics brand gloves, ya, the ones from Lowes or the auto store.  Rubber in the knuckles, thin, synth leather, cool and washable.  Many crashes and used every week.  I get a new pair every year, and they cost less than $20      and if you tear them, they become yard gloves.
