Bike tools - What ya got?
« on: August 01, 2008, 07:39:14 PM »
Just found out today that I needed some special tools to change my cassette. This has put my Saturday ride on hold til I can get it to shop to swap on new wheels. Any suggestions on a list of tools you need to wrench on your bike? I enjoy the wrenching part just need the correct tools. As for now I only have a multi tool ( Bike specific that is). Thanks
wherever you go.....there you are.
Just a big Hooper!

1 set of metric allen key wrenches (possibly two for some suspension bikes)
A chain whip (to hold the cassette steady while you change it)
Cassette lock ring tool
If you have an outboard bearing crankset, get the specific tool for installing/uninstalling it, else get an old style crank puller
Chain tool
If you really want to be cool, get a torque wrench that reads in Lb/In (it is next on my tool wish list)

Some other things that are nice:
Socket set
Soft jaw vice
Bike work stand

For sure...check out www.parktool.com - it is an awesome website that will tell you tools you need for a specific job and show you how to wrench on your bike.
