Can it be true - more trails?
« on: August 31, 2008, 06:45:32 PM »
I just read in the Osprey Observer or the Fishhawker this morning that they are going to open up the land around the resevoir for public use. They stated there will be bicycle trails, equestrian trails and also primitive camping. The article stated that it will be open early Spring and that work is already in progress on some of it. Will this be the trails to connect Boyette and Alafia Park?? I know there was talk of this here before and that noone really knew what was coming, but in the paper it sounds like a done deal. Anyone know anymore on this?

take a read

Is Swamp taking over the maintenance of these trails?

Has Swamp Board discussed this with Southwest Florida Water Management ?

I don't think we have enough volunteers to maintain all the trails

We don't even know if are going to be mountain bike trails. If I had to guess, I would say probably not. If someone has more info, please let us know.

We still have opportunities to add on to our existing trails, and all it takes is more volunteers.  Workdays are coming up for Alafia and Boyette.

FactorE, Starky park seem's like an ideal location in your neck of the woods. Wonder what it would take to get the ball rolling :)

Factore, I also live in NW Hillsborough (carrollwood) and agree, there isn't much in our neck o' the woods.  Luckily it's just down Fletcher to WTA parks.  I did find a decent little place to get miles in, Lake Rogers Park.  It's located about 1,000 yards W of Gunn on N. Mobley, past Fox's corner.  It's a 2 mile off-road single track loop with a couple dips, some sand (ugh) and lots of mulch, which isn't much better than sand sometimes.  There are also some side or spur trails that remind me of Panther (roots) or the center of Flatwoods.  A pretty little park with a couple cool lakes, if you're an angler.  If you don't have the time to get to the other parks but need to put some miles in, it does suffice, for me at least.

I talked to Wes he told me it's all just open field.  who wants to ride open field in florida?  Not me!  Doesn't sound like a park I'd be interested in riding unless they put in blacktop for the road bike.

I'll ride an open field if it connects the trails at boyette and alafia
