Alafia, windfall , turtle eggs
« on: November 26, 2008, 08:56:26 AM »

11/25/200/: midafternoon.  Nice trail conditions.  Just slightly damp.

Tree down on Sandpine, after bridges, leg going back to trail head parking.  This is real close to the double track.  It will make a good choke pint if it is cut right.

Turtle laying eggs on westernmost Rabit Ear.  This was between 10 - 15' before the chokepoint tree on the downslope side of the trail.  This turtle was making a nest right in the middle of the trail.  Saw another egg layer on Roller Coaster, but this one was off trail by several feet.

Took the family out to Alafia yesterday and we rode Sandpine and Riverloop.  Alot of tree limbs down.  I moved all the ones off of Sandpine, but we didnt go on the other trails so you probably want to be careful the next couple of days as it appears they got alot of wind out there this weekend.

Good job Subdude  !! Muchas appreciatus.  In the future, if this ever happens again, just so you know, clear North Creek first, then Rollercoaster and Moonscape, then go to Gatorback, Shelly's Loop, Bridges, Rock Garden and then you go to Sandpine.   ;D    ;D

I disagree with that path... I think SandPine should be a require trail to every start of everyones ride.  Not to mention an end and probably a couple of passes in the middle of your ride...  ;D   I think we need more hard and easy option on that trail.. there is just too many obstacles for people to brake their hands on that trail.

alafia should be nice this weekend.  I rode there yesterday and everything was in good condition, a few puddles on rollercoaster and one on north creek and that was it.  I removed a few branches that had blown down over night, nothing huge.  Wish I could get out again today but alas work is draggin me down....  Maybe this weekend....  Sunday afternoon maybe.

Also rode yesterday. Bridges was in good shape with only a few water spots. Moonscape was pretty slick.
Btw, does anyone know which trail is longer , Gatorback or Moonscape? I was thinking Moonscape for sure but my buddies insist that Gatorback is the longer of the two.

Moonscape is longer if you do all the hard options. Some people ride all the bypasses and it is pretty short that way, plus not very challenging.

The Rabbit Ears were very slick yesterday. Should be OK by the weekend if no more rain.
