Anyone else bringing these home after riding? Do I just attract them?
Any ideas how to keep them of of me? I am considering wearing a dog collar. :-\

Gregg,

I found one on the back of my neck trying to make his way into my hair recently after a trail maintenance work day at Wilderness. I went to squish him and he would not squish so I burned him alive-----yeehaaa.

There is nothing you can do to prevent them from climbing on you----it is a fact of life if you are going to spend time in the great outdoors. Just be vigilant and check each and everytime you hang out in our playgrounds. If you shave all of the hair from every inch of your body they will be easier to locate.

It could be that you ride a Kona, I ride a Kona also so maybe they are attracted to our awesome rides!  LOL

I havent had any up until the last club ride at Boyette.  I got home, and sat on the couch, and had 3 crawling on my legs.  I did stop frequently, so Im thinking that had alot to do with it.  Ill go with Scotts answer and ride faster, and dont stop.  Although I do think I picked them up at the begining of woods trail.  The grass was high and we took a very long break.

Ok,

I love my Kona, but I don't think that is it.

I wear bug spray

I ride plenty fast

and I don't stop much.

I brought two home from Boyette last night and 4 or 5 over the past couple of weeks at Flatwoods.  I was told by the rangers that they hang out in the Palmettos.

quit rolling around in the bushes!

I get them occasionally. When I stop I try to to get into any tall weeds or grass, which seems to help. Not being the first person through a section helps sometimes too! ;D

Man I keep hearing about people landing ticks. Either the people in front of me are getting hit first or I'm not very good at spotting them and they're on me RIGHT NOW!  ???

hahahah, Thanks to Jim for always riding ahead of me  ;)

All the time. I've pulled dozens off my dogs and a couple off me this year. It's worse when I'm doing trailwork - i.e. standing around a lot.

Max (my weim) is a tick magnet.

Great.....we are all gonna die from Lyme disease!  Normally, I dont have a problem with them.  Maybe attributed to the mass quantity of beer I drink.

Thanks to taking care of some stray dogs and having outside dogs in the past, I've found creative ways to kill ticks.

For example:

Put a tick in a little bit of rubbing alcohol, light on fire.
Put some super glue on a tick, supposedly ticks don't breathe that often so I'm assuming they're still alive for a couple of days.
Ticks + microwave = exploding tick - pretty awesome, cleanup is the only downside.

Did I mention I hate ticks with a passion?
