First time at Santos today
« on: September 28, 2008, 07:57:44 PM »
Headed out to santos with Gregg today. had a blast,, even though it was a short blast.
about 500 ft from trailhead i hit a sugar sand corner, front tire washed out and i hit a tree. front brake lever is bent and does not go back to where its supposed to after releasing the lever.

then we ride vortex, which was friggin awesome. so gregg asks if i wanna ride it all again. so we decided to ride the last little section one more time.
as i come down the trail my front tire goes off the cliff to the left a little bit and pitches me forward to the right. i came unclipped somehow but landed on a rock with my right forearm. that crash pulled my front tire off of the bead and bent the poo out of my rim.
Then we decided to ride the yellows back to the car. Gregg wanted to show me a really scenic part by magik mountain so we went there. We stop, i unclip left....(you know what happens next) yep, i fall right. right foot is not unclipped, as i look down to see where i'm falling, guess what i see,,, yep,, you're right again, another jagged flat rock like the one i hit before. so know i land on the rock AGAIN with my JACKED UP arm AGAIN.
my arm is pretty sore, a little bruised and obviously scraped.
And because i know you sicko's out there would hate it if i didn't post pics....

I must say Joe, that despite your wounds and the stiffness that you are no doubt feeling and the damage to your bike....You were really a good sport about it ;D.

Also he did a hell of a job on the Vortex for the first time through.

We actually rode for about another hour on the blues even with the wobbly front wheel.

It was pretty ambitious to tackle the Vortex being so new clipless :)

Glad to see you are ok...want to head back there next weekend?

the funny part was, i only had one fainting goat episode, the 2 wrecks weren't due to clipless

i think i may take next weekend off, lol

but i will definitely go the next time!

OUCH!!!  Glad you're OK.  I love going to Santos!  I think I won't go there anymore if Gregg is going.  ;D

That is one sweet tattoo!   My whole body looked like that when I first started riding clipless.  Makes you second guess if being clipped in is worth it.  Of course it is!

Don't worry Slowy, you'll get used to the clipless pedals soon...and then you'll still fall.

Might not be a bad idea to develop a pedal system that can sense panic and automatically unclip...

The crash on the Vortex loop was easy for him to come unclipped, as he was thrown from the bike! His front wheel hanging off of the side of the cliff. Was a precarious sight!
