650B; any swampers out there riding this platform?
« on: October 17, 2008, 07:50:45 AM »
Well, I've heard all the hype and as a result I've decided to convert my Surly 1x1 SS from the standard 26" platform, to 27.5" (650B). Sounds like the conversion will go smoothly as the 1x1 frame has mondo room for the larger wheel/tire combo. I know what most of you will say, "Don't waste your time, just go 29er". At a towering 5'7" tall, I dont' believe that a 29" platform would be sensible for me. Also, I appreciate the agility of 26" frame geometry; however, I do understand that larger wheel roll over obstacles on the trail better and more smoothly, so it just makes sense to keep the 26" frame and go with larger wheels.

Anybody out there have any experience with 650B? All advice is welcome.

Gracias

where are you located?  I have a few sets of 650B wheels and all the flavors of tires. check out www.650bpalace.com  I moderate this blog.  Also, I'm in Tampa.  I'm a stones throw from Wilderness/ Trout Creek. My dedicated SS650b wheel is in Colorado right now, but I have a geared Stan's wheelset I can loan you for short term.  email me. jeremy@650bpalace.com  I'll get you setup.

There's a 650B forum on MTBR.com. You might want to check that out for advice.
