I just got my second brighter light so I am no expert, but it looks like common practice is to run the brighter lite on the bars. I have a 200 lumen for my helmet and a new 700 lumen for the bars. In theory, the 700 lumen will do the bulk of the work and the 200 lumen on my helmet will allow me to look ahead around corners and also to see what that large hairy creature running alongside me in the woods is :o

I am not an expert on this subject, but I have always run the weaker light on the bar. The brighter light follows where your head turns, and the weaker light fills in the shadow. That is my experience.

I'll try it both ways and see. The FTF will be my first opportunity to see.

I am also new to lighting but have heard that the type of light determines the mount.  Mount the flood light (wider beam) on  the bar and the spot (focused beam) on the helment.
