Help me choose!!
« on: October 30, 2008, 08:55:25 PM »
Well I have decided that I am keeping my Dillinger as my XC ride and and looking to sell the trance and replace it with an all moutain rig.  I have been looking at the Turner RFX or the Ellsworth Moment.  Anyone have experiance with either of these 2 rigs?  All the reviews I have read on both are great, but I have heard bad things about the ellsworth customer service. Either way I am going to build it myself. Comments??

Can't be the current deal on the blowout RFX's if you can find one in your size, it would probably only run about $1400 for the frame.  If you are thinking of spending Ellsworth money, also take a look at the Knolly Endorphin or Delerium-T - www.knollybikes.com or an Intense 6.6.

Doing a little more research I came upon Bionicon Bikes, in particular I was looking at the super shuttle.  It looks like a lot of things are propritary on it but all the review seem pretty good.  The thing that got me interested is the ability to push a button and change the headtube angle anywhere from 67 to 74 degrees, without loosing BB height.  If I did buy it I would still go with just the frame and build from there.  I wonder where I could find one??  Hmmmm.....

Look at Lenz if you're considering a full suspension 29er... have 2 friends that have one and love them.

I believe the new DW link Sultan has 5" of travel, is that enough for you? $$$$ though...

A friend of mine and bike shop owner picked up a Bionicon about 2 years ago and liked it.  Shoot Chad @ www.redbarnbicycles an e-mail and I'm sure he can tell you all about the bike.

Nicolai all the way...except you will have to leverage the cost of the bike against your car because they run 4k + for some of their frames.

Go with the RFX. Supposedly the 09 RFX is going to be a little more freeride orientated than the 08s if you can wait for a while. The original specs were 170mm rear travel , 1.5 headtube, and ISCG tabs. It's changed a bit lately but one thing is for sure , it'll be dw-link.

Not looking for a 29er this time.  Though I love the 29ers for XC riding I am looking for something closer to an all mountain/freeride type of bike.

You were talking about differing headtube angles up above. Look at the Knolly bikes. They have adjustablility between FR, DH and AM with the flick of some bolts. I guess all of this really depends on how much $$$$ you are willing to drop.

I saw that, the cool thing I see on the Bionicon bikes is that it is on the fly no tools required.  This is still a bit down the road, but I am starting research early.

I have had a great experience with my Ellsworth, worth every penny.  Many other companies are going to DW link, I would bet they are getting a better deal licensing suspension technology from Dave Weagle than the FSR from Specialized.  I have ridden VPP, Mestro, FSR and ICT and believe without a doubt that Ellsworth has the most active and efficient package on the market.
Other bikes to consider:

Santa Cruz has reworked the Blur Lt and Nomad (reviewed this month MBA)
Gary Fisher Roscoe
Intense Tracer and 6.6

These should cover most everything in FL.
