Buzzard Bay Alligator
« on: October 30, 2008, 09:25:34 PM »
I nearly ran in to a gator at the end of the finger of Buzzard's Bay today around 3: o'clock.  I was musing about a gator that I had seen in the water about a half a minute earlier when I came to a quick stop about 10 feet away from a gator laying across the trail, sunning him/her self at the end of the finger .  The gator did not move even after I hollered at it.  It had perfect sun at that spot and seemed unconcerned that I wanted to ride my bicycle.   I cut across the higher ground to the trail returning on the other side.  I got big, hollered very loudly and the gator spun around and plopped in to the water.  This was a fair sized lizard around 6 -7 feet tall (if he had been standing on his/her tail).  It didn't seem frightened of me at all.  When it moved finally it seemd more annoyed than frightened of me.
It took a quick stop to avoid an even closer encounter, soiled drawers, etc..

Could SWAMP put up a gator crossing sign ?   :P

I had almost the same thing happen to me a couple of weeks ago, I didn't see it until it was jumping into the water and I was halfway around the switchback. :o

Cool idea.  It was acting tame and docile actually - just wait till mating season when the dinosaurs are pissed at just about everything that comes close to them.   ;)

There is a video that was posted on youtube with a gator in that same spot.  I think we should build a log crossing over the gator.  :D  That gator definitely isn't going to move for YOU.

Art wrestled that gator last year, I saw it last week and it has an "I love Art" tattoo in its bikini area now and it won't mess with dudes in spandex.  I think Dan *an did the ink, very classy, not tramp stampy at all.

I'm game, but I'm not sure I can pull off a gator-over in the middle of a switchback.

Guess we could work on it during a skills day ;D

We startled one on the bank of the switch back late in the day saturday. It scared the crap out of my out of town guest. I guess they don't have Alligators in north Georgia?
