Insightful article on group rides and their dynamics - http://www.nsmb.com/page/s/2743/hound-doggin/

I think I've been on a ride with each of the described ride philosophies.

That is a pretty good article Bill. My group is a "you have to earn it" type group. It isn't about being the fastest, but being able to ride most everything cleanly. I usually end up out front as I have the best ability to maintain a pace that keeps the group together rather than a strung out line of people with their tongues hanging out. ;D

I thought you were out front to keep the 2 behind you from leaving everyone else in the dust?  ;D  And even though I'm the slowest, I actually prefer riding in the back of the group.  (e.g.)-the loss of consciousness that occurred on Bridges on Sunday.

Actually it is closer to 4 or maybe 5 that could leave me in the dust. I'm just the slowfatguy trailblock that keeps the hooligans under control. ;)

Talk about listening to your customers - http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=470179

Intense is going to make a new set of dropouts for their Uzzi frame (the one that I have) because people wished that the bike was just a little slacker and a little lower.  I can't wait to get a set as it would fix the only issues I have with the bike.

frame protection tape

Cool little write-up about a tape that you can use to cover your frame.  It is supposed to only stick to itself and not leave any residue - http://www.sicklines.com/2008/12/06/spotlight-frame-wrap/#more-2905

I've been using that Framewrap for awhile now.  Works great and does what it claims.

Wide bars
« Reply #25 on: December 16, 2008, 08:00:48 AM »
Some like their bars narrow and some like them wide - here's a story about a small company that is offering some 30" wide bars in several cool colors including chrome - http://www.sicklines.com/2008/12/13/spotlight-chromag-fubar-osx-30-handlebars/

I'd like to try a 30" bar on my big bike to see how it feels, but I think 28" will probably be more to my liking.

Nice looking bars.  But 30" is about 6" too wide for my taste.  I might be afraid to cut that much of the bar off.  I like the color options though.

Wide bars are awesome especially when climbing a steep pitch on the singlespeed (but wide for me at 5'5" is 26-27") until you clip a tree that is...there are a couple of spots where I have to slow down (one at Sidewinder, a couple on Nayls Trail...)

I've only found 1 spot (on Cruddy Buddy at Carter) where I've found wide bars to be an issue, but I haven't done Nayls or Sidewinder yet.  I do like a wide bar, but think that 30" maybe a tad too much, but that chrome finish sure is sexy.

Wow, really? If you haven't been to Boyette lately you need to check it out. I used to dislike the place a couple years ago, but it's slowly but surely turning into an awesome MTB destination.
