I twist my bike as much as possible in the air, it feels right.  If I don't, I feel top heavy and have more problems than when I whip it a little.

Twisting the bike on fast jumps like that actually makes you faster, you don't get as high up in the air on the big doubles, less air time is a faster run. As for landing on the front wheel, generally speaking you want to land slightly on the front wheel, especially on a jump with a downhill transition.
