I Void Warranties!!
« on: November 28, 2008, 03:15:10 PM »
Ok I need some help, more than most shrinks can offer.  I want to convert my F29 RLC from 80mm to 100mm I know it can be done and FOX Racing Shocks has approved the modification.  My question is how do you do it.  I know it has to do with removing some bumpers, but since I have never taken a fork apart I don't want to screw up and have to buy a new one.  Anyone have experiance doing it?  Or am I better of just taking it to my LBS and have it done??

Just take it to the shop - I believe the process just involves taking a spacer out from inside the fork.

There is a swamper that has done it for a couple of my friends.  I was net online when I reliazed both of my bike frames were designed for 80mm.  It seems to be a simple process at least on the Rebas.  You do have to have extra oil since it will need refilling.  Best if you ask the LBS mechanic if you can watch him do it and you will  be an expert at it.  I am sure Sean others may post a link to MTBR showing the process.  But if not, search that forums there and you should find it the way to do it.

My experience is limited to children's sized bikes (26 inch ;)), but the Reba was as simple as opening it up and removing a plastic spacer. I went from 100 to 115 on that fork.

I put it through its paces.  Its holding up fine.  Super plush.  I frequently use the lockout when climbing.  When Im riding my gearie im constantly reaching to flip the lever...LOL

Fox, I had one and I liked it.  But im not big on suspension forks anyhow, tomo I will ride without it just fine.  It helps in the mountains though.
