Great people, Great sport!
« on: December 01, 2008, 03:27:22 PM »
First I want to say the frankenbike deal was awsome, it's great to see so many people offer upgreat parts to someone who needed them. I even got a little help, Jim(ellsrider) gave me one of his old forks he had sitting around, which will be a vast improvement over my current fork that has me concerned from a safety stand piont. SO once again I'd like to send a big thank you to Jim for being a great human.

Looking over the list of parts offered up for the build got me thinking. there are alot of guys out there that are a few years into the sport and have built up an arsonal of spare parts in there garages, and then on the other end of the spectrum there are guys like myself who are new to the sport and can't yet afford what we would like (I'll take that carbon fiber lefty to go please ;D). What I was thinking is why not have a MTB Garage sale forum here.

for example let say your a few years in and you've upgraded your shifters to sram X.o's or X9's and your old X7's are sitting on a shelf collecting dust, toss them up here for a few bucks and let a newbie get some use out of them. maybe you have an old frame, or grips, or a dang water bottle thats just taking up space. one mans junk could help another treasure his trail time.

I know we have a for sale section so this might be pointless, but thought I'd put it out there.

Instead of that or in addition, why don't we do "Pimp my Bike" every so often. Take a guy who has proven that he loves to ride, has a sort of decent bike/frame to build on (must be worth putting decent to good parts on) ,and then post potential upgrades that people are willing to let go of for the greater good of the club. Could even set it up so that the recipient pays it forward by donating a set amount to the Swamp Club fund.

Great thinking guys, I was even thinking of an impromptu type swap meet.  We bring our spare parts shop around, let people know they can come make offers, people can trade or give away stuff, we can even make a fun event out of it..

The line for spinners forms behind me.

Oh how about a plasma above the chainstay, and a disco ball on the handlebars.

Put it to good use Silentneko!

How about a complete build list to make a bike, if someone has parts they can donate or sell for X amount of dollars, copy and paste the list, put their name and part on the appropiate line and paste  the list back. When the list is full, we either have a FrankenbikePart Deux or, it could be  a cheap buy/build option for a noobie.  Or, we can donate the parts or partial donations, build the bike and put it up for sale and the money goes for Swamp projects or free subsidized night rides.  Fundraiser bikes!
