Trail Poaching Is Not Cool
« on: December 06, 2008, 04:33:12 PM »
A lot of time, planning, and work go into making new and improved trails for the masses to enjoy.  And we actually enjoy doing that too.  A lot of people give of their time throughout the year to make the trails that we all get to enjoy a reality.

Then comes the Trail Poachers.  Yea, you know those folks who think they can just cut their bike out to a trail that isn't finished yet just because they can't control the urge to be the first to put bike tires on it.

We know it's not all SWAMPers who do it, but some of them are, and the SWAMP membership can set an example.

Sometimes the trail poaching - be it Boyette, Alafia or wherever - really makes more work for the ones who actually give of their time making the trail because of areas that aren't yet ready to be ridden are fragile.  Edges get blown out that just needed a few more hours of work.  Plus it's a bit disheartening to come back for more trail work and see some folks (you know who you are) think it's okay to try and ride what is essentially under construction.

It's not alright.  Don't do it.  Come out and help finish it so we all can enjoy it.  Too much to ask?

They are definitely not folks that spend there hard earned time working these trails. They don`t realize how much backbreaking work is spent on these trails and it really saddens me.

Not at all. I haven't trail poached for years. Used to ride  (poach)Alafia all the time before it was opened up. Those were the days.   I remember one time Art caught me riding in and I didn't know him that much then, he asked me what I was doing  and all I could  come up with was some lame ass excuse like - just out riding my bike. He threw me out. Just a small speech about coming out to help ...

So...who was poaching and where?  Calling people out might be a deterrent...

Hopefully it isn't too serious a problem. I think some have posted about riding out to check it out because there is some excitement    about the new trail and wanted to see it.

I was going to, but being a charitable guy, I'll call them out next time.   :-X

As long as you were with Lance, its ok. But don't go thinking that youcan go out there by yourself.
