Luxury Item
« on: December 08, 2008, 07:52:45 AM »
Ok.

Im planning this upcoming weekend to do my first solo bikepacking trip across the Ocala national forest with my ultimate destination being Santos.

I expect to be at Santos Saturday mid day to afternoon.

Leaving Friday and camping in Ocala national forest that night.

I want to be comfortable and I want to make it a great adventure.

I have the ability to keep cold foods cold with a slight weight penalty.

So, I want to bring a luxury Item, alcohol related to enjoy after I set up camp and before I crash out.

Should I A. bring a beer or two.
OR B.  Bring a flask of some liquor to drink.

Being a noob to liquor if you suggest option B, what kind of liquour would you suggest?

Well, if it's cold out alcohol has a tendency to lower the body temperature even though it gives you the "perception" of warmth which can lead to hypothermia - don't trust the movies! LOL  But - for celebratory purposes a little nip here and there doesn't hurt.  Brandy is a good one, tequila, or quality scotch.  Or sandwich a couple of beers between two frozen ice packs and a couple of bath towels for a makeshift lightweight cooler.

beer in a pack would get sloshed around and potentially flat. i'd go with a flask. more compact and more 'bang' for your buck

I have a Hennessy Hammock for my shelter.  Google it if you want to see what I will be using.  And I got a 0 degree rated sleeping bag.  Im not going to get hammered, LOL, just a sip or two to loosen up and celebrate the ride out.

Used to go with scnapps in a flask for the rides up the chairlift back during the skiing days in Michigan.   ;D

Well, come to think of it, a good amber or dark rum is a great accompaniment to anything.  ;D

I'd def go with a flask...maybe a little Crow Royal.  It is a whiskey, it tastes good, you can mix it w/ Coke or Coffee if you'd like, and it has a nice kick to it.
