Naked Indian's DirTy LiTtle ToUr
« on: December 10, 2008, 10:29:00 AM »
Naked Indian's fan base is growing.   ;)  For those that want to keep track of his progress on his new wild adventure, I will try to keep taps and post them on my blog as I get them from him.  Actually, as I get them and I get to a computer where I can update.  I will keep the updates with routes, GPS coordinates, and blow by blow encouters of what he wants to share at differet locations.  Hey we have the technology, might as well put it to use.  Who knows, maybe we have to drive in there and find him.  I hope not...  Good luck my friend!  You will be fine.

Nekkid, what  time do you get started and what is your goal for the first day? Leaving Friday right? Friday night is the big time to get through. Any night riding or planning on roughing it through 12 hours of dark in the forest?

I start at 2pm.  My goal is to reach the Oklawaha river and set up camp.  ETA 7pm or so, give or take 3 hours.. I will be riding through the forest in the dark, but it will be service roads, shouldnot  be too rough.

Thats going to be tuff. Riding in the darkness and settting up camp in the dark. If nothing else that will help pass the time.  I would want to set up in the daytime, gather wood...

Thats a very good point.  Unless you aren't going to need a fire and have one of those pop-out tents.

I have a hennessey hammmock, 3 minute set up.

I have bright LED's and the moon will be pretty full, so I will be fine gathering and building camp in the dark.

thanks for the vibes brothers.

He's got a Hennesy hammock, he'll be fine.  I doubt he will build a fire...

If you build one, keep it small and be sure to put it out completely, you know with the drought and all...

Army training 101

Never set up a camp or covert base during daylight hours if you can help it.  It exposes you to overhead collection and draws attention to your location.

Fires are for wimps, an MRE heater in the bottom of your sleeping bag provide plenty of warmth.

Don't use a tent if you can help it, thats why we don't issue shelter halves anymore.  Bivy sacks are the way to go.

besides the less you have to carry with you the lighter you are.  sustainability is the key not supplies.  Instead of large amounts of water, carry iodine tablets or a water filter. This is what keeps you alive in the field, inevitably supply is going to get lost (see PVT Lynch), and you are going to be left without for a period of time.  Just my .02 dinar
