« on: December 11, 2008, 12:54:32 PM »
I'm in love now I have to decide........

Intense 5.5 29er?
http://www.intensecycles.com/2008/bikes.php?model=5529

or

Niner RIP 9
http://www.ninerbikes.com/rip9.html

I want to build up a burly trail/all mountain 29er these are the 2 big contenders.  What say you SWAMP?

I'm not going to be stationed in FL forever.  Around here I like my Dillinger, but I want a FS 29" AM bike that I can take anywhere and do anything with.

The 5.5 is more of a long travel XC bike than anything more burly/all mountain-ish.  Its more like a Spyder with more travel than an 6.6/Tracer with less travel.

If the price was the same, I'd say Intense all the way as I feel it will be a better bike with better quality.  But for that price difference, it would be hard to ignore the Niner.  I know that they were/still are blowing out regular 5.5's for around $1k so if you could manage to find a 5.5 29r in that price range, the decision becomes harder.

I pick bikes based on how cool they look, so Intense wins hands down.

I have a RIP Niner, the blue paint also glows in the dark so there is a little cool factor. The RIP Niner is the way to go no doubt, the SIR does look better on paper and has the right amount of travel for down here but its not as fun of a ride and has a few issues that are probably fixed by now. I gotta say that the RIP is the best bike I have ever owned no doubt. If you want to try my bike your welcome to, I'm at Markham usually a few days a week.

Oh yeah I almost forgot its 28lbs with heavy bell :)

Can you post a bigger picture of your bike - there are a couple of specs of dirt I can't see :)

That Niner looks sharp.

Give me a day or two but here are some specs.

SRAM XO Shifters and Dear Derailure
XTR Cranks, front DR
Thompson Seat Post
FSA Carbon Bars
Candy Pedals
Industry Nine Hubs with Salsa Rims
Chris King Headset
"I love my bike" Bell
Fox F29 Fork
Juicy 7 Brakes
Trans AM Seat (A lil heavy but I'm doing a 12hr race soon so I need the padding)

I thought I was on another forum when I asked if you wanted to try it, sorry..
