HAHA you guys.

I'll really confuse everyone, I ride a rigid bike and LOVE heartbreak ridge.

I agree with Gregg, that root should have stayed.  If you like Heartbreak Ridge and didn't like that big root, ride Indian.

Is there a vote for keep Heart Break as is - with occasional erosion repairs - or pull roots to tame it down?

-->as is

Keep it as is, please...roots, erosion, bad juju, skin, blood, and all.  Thanks.

I have a buddy that does blacktop for a living.  I bet he would cut a deal to pave it.  It would be so much easier for everyone then.  LMAO.

If we are going to make changes, let's make them as per the trail description "A very difficult trail" We could add some broken bottles or maybe some 2x4's with nails sticking out of them pointy side up of course ;D

If it's supposed to be a hard trail and decent rider can fairly regularly make it over the obstacle I'd say leave it alone. If it's wicked hard to the point that that this same decent rider only makes it a two times out of a hundred I'd say make an easier option or survey members to see if some fill dirt would be appreciated. If really good riders pretty much make it every time or at least 75% of the time I'd say leave it as is so that the decent rider has a long term goal. I'm a big fan of having something to offer a good challenge but having said that I don't like sections that only a select few in the entire state of Florida can clean on a good day, if conditions are just right, they brought the right bike for the job, and ate their wheaties that morning.

I just returned from Wilderness and took a ride down Heartbreak to check it out for myself.  It looks like the wood was a victim of termites or something...and then someone might have riden over it and it split.  Said person may have fallen and been a little angry and then kicked the root to flatten it down.  Which is why it looks like someone took a chainsaw to it and left "sawdust" all around it...I'll show you what I mean.

Here is what the root, or what used to be one, looks like now:

I found this piece off to the side next to the tree the root comes from:

If you put them together...:
