Helmets: Full Face vs regular
« on: January 23, 2009, 08:12:00 PM »
i saw the thread about the full face helmet for sale, gorgeous helmet and was thinking.
why don't more people rock a full face helmet?
they offer more protection during a crash and look sweet as heck.

i bought a normal because i thought the full face was a tad over kill at first, but after my few crashes, i can see why folks opt for them

whats your opinion SWAMP?
Joe

I have both, and wear the full face almost every ride.  I just feel better.  But im use to wearing helmets, full face m/c and kevlar at work..... so it does not bother me.  And when its cold out, my ears stay warm.  Summer time is not that bad either, even on all day rides.
I have the key to the city.

ill definitly be buying another full face.. once i find one in my size.. but what i like about this one is.. its not like a dirtbike helmet.. its really light.. and has plenty of venting along the top.. i wish it fit me.. but oh well.. thats what i get for having this big ol potato head.

and as far as being overkill.. one good faceplant.. and youll be living on soup.. i dont see how theres such a thing as "too safe" on the trail.

I have both and just reserve the full face for when I'm out west doing full days of downhill riding.  I do like the extra protection, but I think it is generally overkill for our trails here.  2 things that I really like about my full face are:

1.  It narrows your vision so I tend to concentrate/focus on the trail more
2.  It muffles noise which also seems to help with concentration

Bill, you forgot the sex appeal factor. That is key.

I'm married so I'll leave the sex appeal to you single guys :)

Obviously your Intense doesn't need a helmet to have sex appeal, since it was sexually assaulted.  LOL
