I just did that last night.

My first off road ride clipped in was at the North Port trails. For those of you who have never been there (most). The trail runs alond the Myhatchee creek.

Long story short, my son and brother in law fished me and my bike (still attached) out of the creek. It was a long slow tumble.

I didn't witness it but hasn't Gary done this recently?  Landing face down with bike landing on his back and his legs still clipped in.  As in twisting backwards the way the back is not ment to be twisted?  I think so...  Glad you are back ont he bike buddy...  Yea we all have done the slow motion fall.  I feel cheated though.  I didn't get an applause for mine.  I hope I do for the next one.

Oh I landed in front of the bike and it came crashing down on me because I went so fast no time to come unclipped even.

I was getting dizzy trying to see, in my mind, how one can land on the bike with it crashing on top of you.

Did this many times in the beginning clipless days.  The natural tendency of the body when tipping over is to swing the leg out with the toes pointed outward, which is not how you unclip out of the pedals (heel first, in a bass-ackwards manner).  After practice and repetition, you won't make that mistake very often.  Also, consider lightening the tension on the clips -- make it very light (like a beginner would do with ski bindings) until you get the hang of it, then crank it up higher so you don't pull your leg out climbing thru a rock garden and have your knee cap rocket into the handle bar (which I had happen last year in Lynn Woods reservation - not recommended).

I easily have the whole unclipping process down, but on my "day" 38şish angle down going over the bars with 38şish angle up the other side - unclipping was not in the cards.

This wasn't in that deep short gully on the south red trail in Croom was it?

No, that valley like area of Drunken Monkey before the 8 mile bailout.  Trail is changed now.

Oh, ok.  Yeah, when you described the down/up dimensions that south red spot immediately came to mind.  I got caught napping/daydreaming the first time and went flying over that thing without knowing it was there and had to pull some funkytown maneuvers to make it up the other side safely.  LOL.

Btw, where exactly is Drunken Monkey?  I've ridden that section of blue 3 times and I've never seen any trail sign for it.  Maybe I've ridden it without even knowing it....

Drunken Monkey is a hard/easy option right after you cross a north-south forest road, and right before you hit the 8-mile bailout. It's a hard right/easy left and the sign is upside down.

Thanks Harvey.  Just to clarify, are you talking about crossing the forest road (FR9) when coming from the north, or coming from the south (e.g., riding straight up blue from parking area #1)?

I'm talking about if you're riding the north blue from #1.

Ok, thanks -- got it.  I'll see if I can get out this week and check it out.  I may have ridden it -- I hit a few hard/easy choices in the pits neighborhood, just don't remember which side of the pits I was on .... one was called heartbreak something or other I think, and another was kind of a ledge thing that was called "lefty's demise" or something like that where if you're not paying attention you get the privilege of sliding/tumbling down into a wooded-over phosphate mining pit   :)  Some cool stuff in that part of Croom.
