Last year it popped up about 3-4 weeks before the event.  Check out redtrailracing.com .

As far as tires go, I'm running Schwalbe Kojaks again this year.  At the time they were the widest slick I could find that would work well with a wider MTB rim (and they are still pretty skinny).  I believe Specialized makes a decent sized smooth tread tire...as does Continental.  You don't really have to run slicks though.  Most of the folks out there were on knobbies.  Those Hutchinson tires that came on your Anthem would probably do pretty well (very shallow tread and low rolling resistance).

It’s time again for the coolest event on pavement!
The Urban Mountain Bike Race and 2x Speed Trials.
When:   Saturday April 18th 2009  -6:00pm
Where:  Downtown Lakeland FL  (East Iowa & Lemon)

There are two events that night. One is a Urban MTB criterium. Basically a MTB race on asphalt, concrete, stairs and a parking garage. The racers race up a 5 level parking garage then back down to street level over to city hall then going down the front steps of city hall to the blocked off street that takes racers downhill to the next staircase leading to Lake Mirror for another sidewalk climb to the turnaround point to head back to the parking garage to start the next lap. That race will run for approx 45-50 minutes then we sound the horn and give racers one last lap. The course is about ¾ mile but fast and fun. Most racers use a MTB with slick tires for traction and speed while many use knobbies as well. If you can ride down city/public grade stairs then you can compete and have fun at this race. Cash payout for serious divisions.
The second event is a great spectator event and you will want to bring your cameras for this one! We set up a 2x Speed Trials course for the talented Free Riders to showcase some skills and create some fast competition. Riders will compete on identical courses with various obstacles such as ramps and stunts. First one to the bottom is the winner. Using double elimination until a winner is crowned. Lots of BIG air from these guys.
There is plenty to do afterwards with a great selection of restaurants and pubs
In the same area as the event that have a cool downtown vibe.

There is still time to come onboard and be a sponsor of a great event. We would love the opportunity to promote your business.

Flier coming soon.
Hope to see you there!!!

No, that's a stupid, stubborn mountain biker thinking he can pull a roadie around the course and keep him at bay on the last lap. ;)
