Dealing with unauthorized trail maintenance S. Florida style
« on: February 26, 2009, 02:52:01 PM »
From the Club Mud boards -

Route 66 will be closed for one week (NEXT WEEK) because someone cut and removed the roots that crossed the trail towards the end of the trail.

The trail will be closed for 7 days initially to piss everyone off and maybe the trail smoother will hear how upset you are at not being able to ride the trail that he will not do this again.

DO NOT TRESPASS ON THIS TRAIL WHILE IT IS CLOSED.

Next time the trail will be closed one month and after that six months.

Trail smoothing is not tolerated and trail smoothers will loose their right to ride Broward county trails.

All that does is screw the people that did nothing wrong. I never cared for group punishment when I was in the army, I care even less for it now.

Not saying if it is right or wrong, but that is the course of action they are choosing to take to deal with the issue.  They believe they know who is doing it and it isn't the first time he's done stuff like that.  Also, this closed period is giving them time to 'repair' the damage by putting in something far more difficult.

This is the same place that requires riders to watch some kind of safety presentation and carry a card that they've done it while riding. Do they have issues or what?!?!

Maybe we need to do a fieldtrip down there after the work is done to check out the trails :)

Harvey - the video is a requirement of Broward County and not necesarrily specific to the park.

Yeah, I know. The same county that's had Quiet Waters closed for how many years after hurricane damage? Red tape bureaucracy at its finest!

Eclark I knew it was you smoothing out the trails. You pretty much just admitted it. I am going to have to keep an extra close eye on you during trail work. Next you are going to start wearing spandex and riding a single speed rigid.

Quiet Waters has been re-opened for a while now...however it is nothing like its former self.  They basically bulldozed the entire area that was the mountain bike trails and they've been starting from scratch.

Eclark - I'm sure they are going to make it pretty difficult to poach and they are going to rebuild the damaged area with something worse than some roots.

i'd have to agree. i'd be pi$$ed if alafia was closed cuz someone smoothed out a section of gatorback.
the SWAMP board members should carry 10shot paintball guns in their camelbacks and just pop whoever they see poaching. then when the marked up folks ride back to the parking lot, the whole lot will know what they did  lol
