So, if you have not ridden the new trail at boyette you definately need to!  I had to ride the little cross section called "the plunge" about 6 times before I could get myself to move on with the rest of the trail.

"The Plunge" is probably the biggest rush I've experienced in Florida on a mtb. Of course I never made it to the T.O.E or Razorback.

I rode Boyette for the first time yesterday, and of course did this trail -- some of the drops are unbelievable.  Actually found myself braking a bit on some of the uphills ... lol.

Which is taller?  The Plunge or Big Gulp.  I only rode razorback once and dont remember how tall Big Gulp was.

Have not rode the plunge, but the big gulp was tall, steep and had a very tight g out at the bottom, saw many a rider get eaten alive on it.
How is the plunge in comparison?

I'd say that both the Plunge and Big Gulp are pretty close with maybe a slight nod to Big Gulp for being a bit higher and a bit steeper.  The g-out for Big Gulp was much more severe than the Plunge which you don't really need to use much brake for.

I plan on hitting boyette soon to find out what the deal is with the new ridgeline thing.   PRolly PM on the 14th.

I used to travel up to Reddick every Saturday before its exclosure and this drop did remind me of that drop but more area (less tight) but without that hard technical switchback climb to get to that very hairy drop and off camber on each side that was called Big Gulp that was not put in the races but was there as a hard alternative route!
Miss Reddick alot but do not miss the long drive way up North. When in training, there was and never has been a place to train hard and not have to deal with head ons and have guys ball you out for riding the trails too fast wich have made me give up the XC sport.
If Reddick was still around like it was, I would still be involved in XC racing because the one way 10-13 mile trail was amazing!
Thanks Dave!

As far as the best trails in Florida, the Swamp Club has done a tremendous job in this Ridge Line trail that it is tremendous that the thrill to ride this trail section and other parts of Boyette have just amazed me!
Have to thank the Swamp Club crew for a trail section that is the best 2 miles of non stop fun that i have had in a long time!

Edited:
We're waiting for the final OK on a parallel SST trail so there is one going out and one coming back.  Hopefully next week. A couple others may either get widened or split to accommodate two way traffic now that it has gained such popularity.  As always we need the masses to come out and help.  If one can ride the trail one can help make it, or make it better.

For those who have not had the priveledge of riding it, Hairy Scary at Ft. Meade is taller, longer, and steeper by at least 50% than the plunge. Standing at the base looking back up is amazing.

Big Gulp was brutal, and probably the only drop I ever did, skidding...lol sorry bout that to whomever seen my skid marks after me..The G-out zapped all of your momentum, thus making the climb back out of the Gulp, even more brutal.
I'm somewhat glad to hear the Plunge is a slightly smaller, slightly tamer version though...the G-out is inevitable though, as the trail erodes with time, it will hollow out at the bottom where rain runoff shoots down the drop face. , but for now it sounds like a barrel of fun.
Maybe, I'll hit Boyette tomorrow if I don't make Santos. :D
When you ride so far out that you hear no traffic, no people...nothing..

Is that even possible? lol

The exception is multi-use trails.
I get that, but MTB specific trails, have no speed limit, and if they do, that is lame. If all parties are observant, and watch where they are going, almost any decent bike will go from 20mph + to a dead stop in under 20 feet.

This point does'nt do much service when you don't see the other biker until 2 feet before impact.

I've had alot of close calls at Boyette, and I don't really ride out there too much. Golf Cart and Spider Berm are usually the worst, because there are so many spots that are really fast on both of them. Bad part is, most people don't even see you until you holler at them to stop!

I have not been to Boyette.  Mostly , I hit Wilderness trails since they are close to my house and it seems that my mtb'ing is normally a recovery ride for my roadie stuff the preceding day.  Kind of wish I could change that up but all my best riding buds are roadies.  This 29r SS stuff is addictive though.

Anyway, I have been reading all of these posts about new trails at Boyette and wonder if there are any current trail maps for dudes like me that are not familiar with the place.

Check out the section for "Trail Maps" under the main forum page and then click Boyette. The map is current as of Feb 2009.

Hi,
Needed to ride last weekend and the time change messed me up and i missed the road groupride.
So i decided to have a recovery ride because of my hurt shoulder and riding my only roadbike with a 47/13 is very very boring alone so i bravely headed out to Boyette.
I started off slow and very cautious of other riders and i went onto SST at a mellow pace and was yelling "Rider Rider" at every turn.
Well, I spotted someone and yelled "Rider Rider" as i stopped. That large rider was so commited at a high rate of speed and rammed me head on without even braking and my shoulder went "Click!"
I asked him if he was alright?
I did not get any answer.
Plenty of close calls.
May go to a feed store and purchase a couple of cow bells and give that a try as well.

Had to take today off. OUCH!
When i do recover, i will defenitly help out Swamp to improve the already beutiful trails safer (on derectional loops? or whatever needs to combat the head ons. Those head ons really hurt us runts.

SSt could stand to be a one way trail, honestly. Most others, that are two way there is room if both parties are paying attention, but thats not always the case.

sorry you got rammed bro, instead of a cowbell, how about bull horns, that would wake him up instantly, and he'd never make that mistake again. :p
