« on: March 08, 2009, 09:40:10 PM »
Just checked out the new trail map for Boyette and cannot locate big drop on it...have done it several times cause people I am with know how to get there but on my own, never can locate it.   can anyone give me some directions once inside the park or what it is off of or near...thx....want to hit it tomorrow.

It's near the very end of South Abyss. In fact it's the last downhill on that trail. If you ride Spider Berm and then go left soon as you come out of the woods you'll end up on the double track. Go right at that T in the road and stay on the double track heading away from Spider Berm. Keep and eye out for the new Big Drop sign on your left (Big Drop has been changed drastically). It's the first sign you'll see but go slow so you don't miss it. If you see the Pandamonium sign on the right you've gone to far.

there is actually bright red tape blocking the old entrance.
once you come out of spider berm and get on the double track like catman said, there is a little sign/map on your left with a 'you are here' arrow.

Cool vid! I have one posted on my ride page as well. I love Big Drop. I think the first turn is so cool, you feel like you're riding off the edge and then whooosh down to the left.

that's a cool twist to the new way they re-did it. some dude cought some air not knowing about the lil turn and hit the tree.

I read that on MTBR... I guess he was new to the trail and instead of rolling it, he pedaled/pumped it.  :o  Didn't anticipate the turn at the bottom and SMASH.

Did I see a trail to the right and towards the end where you can reconnect with N abyss? Is that a legal trail?

That is a legal trail.  You have the option after Big Drop to climb out over that pipe, or stay to the right and bypass the end of the pipe for another round.   :)

I guess I had no reason to ask because I've never been up for another round of Abyss.

I like to go a couple rounds with the Abyss, and do all three Pandemoniums.  I found I still have enough to get a couple of rounds of Ridgeline too, but the energy wains after that and a zip through G Loop.
