Met up with Uber, Bikehard, Catman, and Krunnch today for nice, casual ride today at Alafia (skills day pace, basically).  We hit Bridges/Shelly's Loop first, then headed to to Moonscape.  I just wasn't feeling it early and almost quit - I don't think I ate right prior to the ride - but we went back to parking lot after Moonscape and I fueled up and went back out feeling better.  Everyone kicked it on Moonscape and I actually made the climb into Doom for the first time in eons.  I was almost going to quit, but tried one more pedal stroke and cleaned it.  Krunnch did the highline on the Doom drop which was fun to watch.

After Moonscape, we headed over to Gatorback and everyone was riding great.  Catman was determined to make the switchback and climb up on the bridge around the tree and came so close.  On his last attempt, he had to unclip about a bike length onto the bridge, and for a split second he looked fine...

Down goes Catman, still on his feet, spinning around in some sort of bizarre dance with his Reign until he hit a tree right above the trail below.  All seems fine for another split second...

Down goes Catman again, continuing his dance with the bike over the trail below and finally stopping about 5-10 feet below that trail when he hit another tree.  He was fine minus some abbrasions and he finished the trail cleaning pretty much everything else.

Good ride today, but I have to get used to the heat and we all need to pray for some rain as it is getting sandy out there.

That Catman dance was entertaining to watch.  I missed the last little bit of it as I dropped my bike and raced back down the switchback to make sure he was OK.  I thought he had saved it, but then I heard the very distinct sounds of a bike and person falling while he was out of my sight.

He did good to only come out of it with the scratches he had.  Good thing Gregg wasn't there, he probably would've pushed him off the trail like he did me...LOL.  :D

Watch our for the chick copper inside of Alafia..she pulled me over for speeding and gave me the third degree.... I think she let me off because she saw my Turner! LOL...

First time on doom today and was not as bad as I thought!

Next time I am bringing a dust mask as it is really dry.

Spectacular acrobatics Catman!  Dont forget to stich up those pants!  Glad u cleaned the boardwalk climb on moonscape  ;)

I rewarded myself with enough KFC to feed a family (emotional eater  :'( ). Fun ride even with my hardly noticeable dab on the boardwalk around the tree. That giant hole next to the boardwalk is a death trap!

I'm very reluctant to check my bike for damage. For God's sake I just got the damn thing.

Awards for the day:

Bill wins the award for the smoothest climb into Moonscapes Doom entrance that I've ever seen.

Uber wins the sweetest looking bike award......again. Prize money is being held until you make that last long climb out of Gatorback  ;D

Krunnch wins biggest balls award for doing Doom's high side drop and that other crazy sketchy, sandy, deadly, I hate it, drop on Moonscape. Did I mention that I hate that drop? Broke my f'ing $100 helmet last time I tried it.

I've got the best crash category all taken care of even though it was really just a minor dab in the online world. Plus I totally did it on purpose to entertain everyone.

And Bikehard wins the cleanest bike I've ever seen award. He scrubbed the bike so hard that the handlebars came loose.

Made that last climb today on my SS. It was slow and ugly but I'm counting it. Sounds like a good excuse to hold another skills day at Alafia.

Freaking $12,419.99 and it still doesn't have the bling factor of the Ibis. I'm gonna keep looking though  :-\

Man, I was feeling fine after my huge crash, I mean dab, but must have pushed my luck by riding Alafia again the next day. I felt all busted up today at work. Probably gonna face my demons again Tues or Thurs. Can we put up guard rails on Gatorback? And trail side hotdog stands?

I think a nice tiki bar at the end of the last big climb on Gatorback in that clearing would be perfect.

BillT, any video evidence that you made the climb into Doom?  You slipped this line into your post and no one else seemed to notice it.  With all the technology out there on the trails these days, I'm thinking video evidence might be required to claim such feats!   ;D    ;D      j/k    good job if you did make it. Chisel says he's going to have to try it again. I haven't tried for a long long time either. You have got me motivated.

There isn't video evidence but a few of us actually saw it.  Not only did he make the climb, he stopped pedalling in the middle of it, started again, and still made it.  It was definitely a sweet move.

I third that! It should also be noted that he basically made it on his first attempt as well, just set a foot down when already up top. I pretty much made it as well but I'm taking the left line up the roots now like SFG showed me. I love that little challenge but at the same time it pisses me off if I can't get it first try. So I'm usually quite pissed off.

I paused for a split second about to give up, but then said WFT and gave it another pedal stroke, didn't slip, and just motored on up.  I was surprised as I don't think I've made that thing in well over a year.  I took it wide to left on the first hill to have a good angle and a pedal stroke or two of acceleration prior to hitting the rock.  The Kenda Small Block 8's impressed me on that one.
